Finally! Apple let us all in to the song on the Macbook Air commercial. I love this song. Everyone else at work is sick of me singing it. Anyhow, I will share and enjoy and try to dig up more info on her tomorrow. She's fabulous!
Last week it was a holiday song by Keith Sweat. Keith Sweat. First off, where the hell has HE been. Second, who the f*ck cares?
This week it's Michael Bolton. Yes, Michael Bolton and I don't mean the one from Office Space.
Apple. Don't make me embarassed. Better songs plzkthxbye.
Today, the boys were discussing Star Wars and giving each other names based on characters. I casually (or so I thought) mentioned that I have never actually seen Star Wars. I've seen parts of the film, but I always fall asleep. I did see the Phantom Menace but I got irritated and took a $10 nap. I do know a majority of the cultural references because -- well I hang out with nerds.
Major freakout time. Even customers got into the mix, wondering how on earth I could have never seen Star Wars. How could I have not seen Star Wars and I wanted to major in Film? It didn't make sense!
So after all the commotion died, Oscar suggests the name "Jawa" and everyone starts laughing. He explains it's because I'm short and sometimes squeak when I'm nervous. Hmmm. "What's a Jawa?" I ask.
Hello. I work at Apple part-time. I'm what they call a Mac Specialist.
It's a fancy word for "salesperson".
I just feel the need to let all of you friendly shoppers out there know something. When I ask if you need some help, I'm not trying to force you to buy everything you touched. I'm not trying to "make more money". For the record: Apple employees are not on commission. We get paid the same whether we sell 100 computers, or none. We employees are honestly big fans of the Apple brand, so we like to make sure that everyone has a chance to ask questions even if you think it's a stupid question (it's not).
We also like to dispel Apple myths, rumours, or downright lies: our personal favorite is the iPhone nano, and the limited-edition "Yellow Submarine" Beatles iPod. We'd also really appreciate it if you didn't come in the store proclaiming that you hate "all things Apple", then proceed to spend another 45 minutes checking your e-mail on the computers while listening to your iPod. Oh yeah, that iPod? Apple product. Just in case you weren't aware.
The Photo Booth application on our computers is awesome isn't it? I'd just like to point out that it's not a "MySpace Photo Booth" so please leave your makeup bags and hair extensions at home. Other people would like to have a look at the computers too. And its really hard to get glitter lipgloss out of the keyboards.
Oh yeah: there are a grand total of 5 women who work in my store. Of those 5, one is a Mac Genius, one is our Business Specialist and the last 3 are Mac Specialists. We find it very insulting when you side-step us when we offer to help you, and run to the next male person you see. We try not to take it personal, but hey it's kind of hard. But just watch when you ask the male Mac Specialists a question they can't answer. They come right to us. (Sometimes, we know more than them. Sorry!)
So please try to remember the above the next time you're in the store. We'd make fun of you after you leave a lot less if you did. Thanks!
Working at Apple has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that Apple comes out with consistantly awesome stuff. We have our "haterz" like most products but you can't deny Apple is pretty innovative.
The one thing I cannot stand - mostly because I hate surprises - is how Apple lets its employees know what coming out there. Sure we can read the Mac gossip sites, but we honestly never believe anything until we see it. And Apple doesn't let us know until the day of. I showed up to work today and found out about 5 products had been revised and relaunched, the best ones being the new iMac and the iLife and iWork '08 packages.
The iLife '08...let's just say I can't wait to get my copy on friday. I just finally downloaded my iLife '06 and was having fun with that and iWork. The new stuff is pretty sweet, and I'm excited to check out the spreadsheet proggie that's in the new iWork.
So yes, pretty pretties this week. All courtesy of Apple. Thanks Steve.
We sold our last 4 iPhones at 9 this morning! We're completely sold out!
I'm telling you, I'm seriously loving this product. It kind of sucks though; we got so much training and none of us sales people got to actually hold/touch/caress the iPhone until about an hour before you did. There's been a lot of demos going on - i.e. we play with the phone while you stand around and watch us- because it's really hard to answer questions and actually show you how it works if us Mac Specialists can't do it ourselves.
It's still pretty fricking sweet though. I could play with it all day and not get bored. A few probs I see with the phone are:
1. The touch pad only works with your finger pads. You can't use a stylus, acrylic nails or any other pointy object to type or tap anything. It's especially hard for those of us with big thumbs; it takes a bit of getting used to. In Safari mode, you can tilt the phone longways - it gives you a bit more room to type out, but you can't do that in SMS mode and that's a bit poor.
2. The front of the iPhone gets a bit messy, and if there's anything on it you kind of have to tap a bit harder than you should. We sell the protective film covers and they work great so you should probably get those for your iPhone. I have the LG Chocolate phone, and the same thing pretty much happens on my touch pad as well. Any face sweat, hand gunk or anything and the touch sensor pad doesn't work very good. Protective film cover FTW!
3. After a while, I noticed that the iPhone gets very hot. Not hot enough to burn, but hot enough to be like "Hey, why is this so hot?" sort of thing. I don't know if it's because we have hundreds of people coming in to play with it daily, but it was kind of strange. Hopefully it is because it gets handled by hundreds of people and not some kind of battery defect (iPods, anyone?)
All in all, it's a pretty sweet project and it's awesome to be a part of something so cool. I only hope the launch of Leopard in October is as much fun as this was.
Today we released the iPhone and OMFGZ. I've never had so much fun at work, ever.
I can't really go into too much detail, but if you can please get down to your nearest Apple store, and just play with one. You'll fall in love.
I had convinced myself that I didn't need one, but rest assured I'm totally getting one as soon as my contract with Verizon is up! And besides, I need a quad band phone for doing...whatever it is quad band phones do, haha. Also, I wonder who is going to be the carrier in the UK and EU starting next year. T-Mobile, Orange or Vodaphone? Hmm.
Thank you Apple, for a day full of fun and hilarity. Go iPhone!
It's been crazy around here ya'll.
First things first...I got an A in my Business Law class! Yay me! It wasn't like it was super hard, but I had a rough time class wise early last year after my surgery...I'm still trying to drag my GPA out of the mud. It's awesome though, I love getting A's!
We catered out County job last week and it went awesome! Granted, we had some things go wrong (grill we wanted was out of stock, had to rent a UHaul from hell) that caused our profit margin to take a dip but now we're very well known in the County Department. All of the County heads took cards and asked us what we're doing for Christmas (uh oh...). Mission Trails out in Santee really is a nice place for a walk, just watch out for lizards. All in all it was a great time, I could have done without all the nature LOL.
A few weeks ago, I went on an interview to Apple Computers. I'm happy to say that I got the job there, and can now leave King's Fish House in the dust. I'll be working there nights, in a more casual atmosphere so when I get done with running around kids all day, I can just throw on my Apple shirt and go. Plus discount! OMFGZ! Discounts!
In any case, I'd better get up and start cleaning. Daniel gets here on Monday and I still have loads of sheet washing, carpet cleaning and other random crap to do. I'll have to read up on my neighborhood, I mean honestly, could you guys post a little less =P
